In 2014, the aggressive promotion of LTE services by our peer increased market competition. With the approval of commencing the LTE FDD and TD-LTE hybrid network trial in selected cities on the mainland, China Telecom has progressively rolled out 4G handset service in those cities since late Jul 2014, effectively fostering the number of mobile subscribers rebounded from Aug onwards. With the permit to operate LTE FDD mobile service nationwide being granted to China Telecom in Feb 2015, the Company offered 4G service nationwide leveraging LTE hybrid network in 2015.
After the commencement of 4G service nationwide at the beginning of 2015, the Company has been proactively upgrading its 2G/3G subscribers to 4G service, optimizing the subscriber structure and increasing 4G penetration continuously. To align with the Company's strategic focus on 4G in its mobile development, and further enhance the essentiality of disclosed information, the Company would only disclose 4G terminal user and mobile subscriber figures and not to disclose 3G/4G subscriber figure.
Handset data traffic represents the data traffic generated from 3G and 4G handset internet access.
